RUO Website Compliance Checklist: Disclaimers, Attestation, Age Gates and Copy
A page-by-page RUO website checklist covering disclaimers, copy, imagery, checkout confirmations and review operations. Not legal advice.
Read the guideResearch-use framing needs to survive everyday edits, not just the first legal review. We build a copy checker into the places your team publishes words. It flags common risky phrasing before it reaches the storefront, including copy written by an AI assistant. You choose the mode. Your legal review still decides what your business can say and sell.
The checker covers products, pages, page sections, header and footer, cart, popup, collections and emails. These surfaces can all carry claims, even when the product description has been reviewed. A promotional line in a popup or an email does not sit outside the review just because it is short.
The same check runs on AI-agent edits. Giving an assistant access to the admin does not create a separate publishing path around the copy rules. We keep the content check attached to the edit, so ordinary staff work and agent work face the same research-use guardrail.

Choose off, warn or block. Off disables the checker. Warn flags the wording for attention. Block stops risky copy before it goes live. We set the mode with you rather than suggest that one setting can settle every regulatory question.
The rules were written for research-use stores and are not configurable per store. For other restricted categories, we agree warn or block mode with the client. The checker is a guardrail for common language patterns, not a category-specific legal opinion.
The categories below describe language the checker looks for. They are not claims we make about products, and they are not a complete list of everything a reviewer may question. Context and the rest of your business still matter.
The illustration below shows the difference between research-use wording and a flagged claim. It uses fictional product copy and does not review your live store. On a production build, the checker sits in the publishing workflow rather than a separate document someone has to remember to open.
A flagged line gives your team a reason to stop and review. Replacing the line with a disclaimer does not establish that the original claim is acceptable. Keep the product description, page sections and promotional text consistent with the framing your reviewers approve.
Research-use attestation and minimum age are stored on every order. The attestation text and minimum age, from 18 to 25, are configurable. That records what the checkout required rather than leaving the policy only in a footer.
Store access can be open, age-gated or accounts-only. Block the countries and US states you choose. Disclaimers can appear at add-to-cart, cart and footer, with configurable text. The Google Merchant feed excludes ad-restricted names. These settings support your policies; they do not guarantee eligibility for a processor or advertising service.

Cart copy, offers and checkout wording are part of the customer journey. We include those surfaces in the build review alongside product pages. Lot evidence belongs in that review too: the checker addresses phrasing, while public COAs identify the batch and its reported test results.
